My Favorite Drugstore Makeup

Hi, my name is Yasmeen before I started to talk about my favorite drugstore makeup I want to say thanks to Kayla for letting me to post on her blog.

I’m a highschool student and most of my makeup products are from drugstore so I thought it’d be fun to share with you my all time favorite drugstore makeup products because it’s inexpensive and they’re pretty much easy to get.

1. Revlon Colorstay One-Stroke Defining Liner

This is probably the only eyeliner pencil that I really use. I’m still an amateur when it comes to applying eyeliner so I really love this item because it is easy to glide onto your upper eyelid and it actually last for a pretty long time.

2. Revlon Photoready Concealer

My favorite stick concealer of all time. It has a creamy blendable texture which I really like it because it is so creamy that it glides smoothly on the skin. It also works well in covering dark circles and any imperfections. I would definitely repurchase this stick concealer when I’m finish with it.

3. L’oreal Paris Shine Caresse

I bought this because Barbara Palvin was featuring it. Since I really like her I just get this lip stain without a second thought but I didn’t regret getting this at all. I adore this lip stain because of the color and when you put it on your lips it has this light liquid feel which is like water and it has a light flower scent. It does keeps your lips hydrated and it stays on my lips for the whole day long.

4. L’oreal Paris True Match Blush

I actually got this as a gift from my mother when I first started with makeup. It also integrated with a mirror and brush so it’s really convenient to use it whenever you are. The staying power is around 5-6 hours for me. (I’ve normal skin) It is really easy to blend and gives off a natural flush.

5. Maybelline Magnum Volum Express Super Film Mascara

I heard this mascara only sell it in Asia so if you can’t find it in the drugstore then you might have to order it online. I tend to rub my eyes and so far I haven’t experience any smudging/ fallout. It is also waterproof but I haven’t try if it does work against tears or water.

Guest Post How to Fix Your Fried Hair

 

Alright ladies, it’s time to pull up a chair, grab a snack and let me tell you a little story about my crunchy hair.  About three months ago I decided I was going to lighten my hair for the summer.  I was envisioning a sunny beach, glorious caramel colored tresses, a pinã colada in hand and a well-muscled cabana boy attending to my every need.  

What I got was fried orange hair and an emergency trip to the salon.

Whether it involves bleach, dye, or styling tools, we’ve all damaged our hair at one point or another.  Friends, I am here to tell you how to fix it.  

Chemical Damage

As much as we love it, it really is time to lay off the hair dye.  All semi-permanent and permanent dyes contain peroxide.  Peroxide is bad news for your hair because it breaks down the hair’s cuticle.   If you just have to have a color change, apply hair dye to your roots and then comb it through the ends in the last few minutes.   

Follow up your dye job with a steam treatment once a week.  

How to Steam Your Hair:

After giving your tresses a good shampooing, apply a deep conditioner to your wet hair.  Microwave a large bowl of water for three minutes until steaming.  Pull on some thick rubber gloves (the kind you clean with) and dunk a towel into the hot water, wring out excess and let it cool for a few seconds.   Wrap the towel turban-style around your hair; let it sit for five minutes and then rinse.

Steaming adds moisture to your hair, gently lifts the cuticle to allow treatments to soak in and enhances your hair’s natural texture!

Heat Damage

Heated styling tools are incredibly destructive to the hair’s cuticle.   Once you fry the cuticle, the cortex is left exposed. The scorched cortex soaks up moisture from the air to compensate, and you’re left with a head full of frizz. Continued use of hot tools on damaged hair causes it to become even more brittle and eventually break off.  That, my friends, is a nightmare none of us want to experience.

So, how do we fix this problem?

Start by misting a heat protectant with panthenol on towel dried hair.  Blow dry with a dryer that has a nozzle attachment so there’s a safe distance between your hair and the dryer's metal coil.

For you flatiron happy ladies, keep an eye on the heat.  Use 360°F for fine hair and 410°F for thicker strands.

Products containing keratin (a protein found naturally in your hair), such as gloessentials Reparative Keratin - Leave-in Treatment, are a great way to revitalize heat damaged hair.  

Product Build Up

If your hair is looking a bit dull and lifeless, buildup may be the culprit.  Styling products and hard water can cause a nasty build up that robs our hair of its natural shine.  

If your hair is suffering a nasty case of the gunk, a clarifying shampoo or treatment is the answer.  My personal favorite is Pureology Purify Shampoo.   Use clarifying treatments sparingly, as overuse can cause your hair to become dry and brittle.  

Do It Yourself

A homemade moisturizing hair mask can do wonders for damaged hair.  The following recipe is one of my favorites.  

Ingredients:

2 egg yolks

2 teaspoons of extra virgin olive oil

Half of a ripe avocado

Directions:

Mash the avocado with the olive oil in a large bowl.  Mix in the egg yolks.  Coat your hair with the mixture, then cover with shower cap and leave on for 20 minutes.  Rinse with cool water and shampoo and condition as usual.

Avocado is rich in fatty acids and acts a natural moisturizer.   Egg yolks are packed with vitamins A, D, and E which makes for shiny, healthy hair.

By using specially formulated treatments and giving my hair a rest from chemicals and heat, I’ve restored its natural beauty.  Take care of your strands, ladies, and go forth with gorgeous, happy hair.

I love mascara, if I could only live with one makeup item for the rest of my life it might be that. I love trying out new mascaras. Today I have a review on a sample size of Too Faced Lashgasm mascara.

Review

I have to say I think this is one of the best mascaras I have tried so far. I usually don't like mascaras with this type of brush that this mascara comes with because I feel they are not soft and sometimes pull too much on my lashes. However I don't have this problem with this mascara wand. I think this does a good job and getting most of my lashes and separating them, I also love this wand for the bottom lashes because it's not too big an it is able to grad onto my bottom lashes without getting any mascara on my under eye area. Even with 3 or more coats I also find that this mascara doesn't clump my lashes together to much from other mascaras I have tried. Also my lashes look light and not overdone, like your wearing too much.

Too Faced Shadow Insurance Review

As a birthday gift I got this set with mini samples of Too Faced products. One of the products I received was Too Faced Shadow Insurance, which is a primer that I have been wanting to try for ages.

Review
This primer is a nude tone primer it's almost clear on the skin primer and is a creamy texture. A little bit of this product goes a long way you don't need a lot. I have experience no creasing with this primer like I have in the pass with Urban Decay's eye shadow primer in Eden as well this primer makes my shadows last all day long. The product comes in a squeeze tube, however at times the product can come out and look watery. So I recommend giving the tube a good shake before each use, this is the only con about this product otherwise I can for sure picture myself in the future buying a full size tube of this product when I finish the one I have now.

Your Hair Dye Could Be Your Ticket to Dangerous Chemicals

Dyed hair is one of the most popular fashion trends around the world today. It is common for women and men to dye their hair a few times a year. Dying your hair can make a dull hairstyle interesting and beautiful. It’s also popular among people who want to cover up “unsightly” grey or white hair.     

But before you allow a hairdresser to dye your hair, you should first be fully aware of the potential health dangers that you are exposing yourself to. For instance, did you know that there are dangerous toxins lurking in hair dyes that can be absorbed into your body?

What’s even more alarming is that because hair dyes are classified as a personal care product, they do not go through any government mandated testing before they hit supermarket shelves. So even if they contain toxic ingredients, they can still be sold to consumers.

Beware of Toxins in Your Hair Dye

Of the 456 hair colors ranked in the "Skin Deep” cosmetics database created by the Environmental Working Group (EWG), roughly 400 are considered high hazard because they contain toxins linked to:

• Cancer
• Immunotoxicity and organ toxicity
• Developmental and reproductive toxicity
• Neurotoxicity
• Allergies and irritation of the skin, eyes, or lungs

For example, “ash blonde” or “chestnut brown” hair dyes may contain:

• Para-phenylenediamine and tetrahydro-6-nitroquinoxaline -- both shown to damage genetic material and cause cancer in animals.
• Coal tar -- a known carcinogen. One investigation revealed that 71 percent of hair dyes used today contain coal tar.
• Formaldehyde -- a preservative linked to cancer, developmental and reproductive toxicity, and other health issues.
• DMDM Hydantoin -- a preservative that is found to be toxic to the immune system. This chemical has been banned for use in cosmetics in Japan.
• Eugenol -- a fragrance ingredient that’s been linked to allergies, cancer, immunotoxicity, and neurotoxicity.

It is a good idea to look up the brand of hair dye you use in EWG’s cosmetics database, so you will know what types of damaging chemicals you’re being exposed to.

Beware: Showering in Warm Chlorinated Water Doubles the Danger

People with dyed hair are often told they should not bathe in chlorinated water, mainly because chlorine strips away the natural protective oils found in your hair and scalp, which causes excess drying that breaks down the dye, affecting its longevity. If your hair color fades away quicker than you expect, then it’s probably because of the chlorine in your bath water.

But there is a more important reason not to bathe in hot chlorinated water if you have dyed hair. Keep in mind that your scalp has a very rich blood supply that transports toxins from the dye throughout your body. Because hot water and steam opens up your pores, more toxins – both from the dye and the chlorine – can enter your bloodstream, exacerbating the negative effects of the dye.

So if you have dyed hair, make sure that you do not bathe in hot chlorinated water. It will be helpful to install a whole house water filter in your home to filter out the chlorine and lessen the risk, but this alone cannot protect you.

Minimizing the Potential Risks of Using Hair Dye

Limiting your exposure to dangerous chemicals, especially those in beauty products, should always be a top priority. This means avoiding hair dye. However, if you are really determined to use it, here are some tips that may help reduce your exposure:

1. Avoid dark shades. They contain more chemicals than lighter shades.
2. Permanent hair colors are the most toxic, so steer clear of them. Use semi-permanent or temporary hair dye instead.
3. Opt for natural brands of hair color that use henna, herbal dyes or vegetable dyes as the main ingredient. They are likely to be less toxic than other hair dyes.
4. Find a salon that uses chemical-free, odor-free, herbal products, or caters to people with multiple chemical sensitivity and allergies.

Glamour Doll Eyes Makeup Look

 

Today I have a makeup look featuring some eye shadows that I have from Glamour Doll Eyes.

If you remember I did a haul and review on the eye shadows I bought from Glamour Doll Eyes and they are so great the pigmentation is like out of this world and they have so many beautiful colours to chose from. I bought a ton of samples and I haven't used them in a why'll because pigments can be a bit messy at times, I have knocked over pigments and the mess is annoying to clean up if this happens, but Glamour Doll Eyes pigments are so beautiful so I want to start using them more in my makeup looks that I do for this blog, after all I did buy them to use lol.

L'OREAL VS Neutrogena Which One Is Better?

 

Recently I have been trying out new makeup removers to find which one is best for me. I was using Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Cloths for a 2 months but then I came across L'OREAL Skin Genesis which was at a lesser price at Winners then my regular wipes which I buy from Wal-Mart so I decided to give them a try to see which one I liked more. Here is my review on both of these products.

 

 

 

Neutrogena Makeup Removers Cleaning Cloths

 

About The Product

Ultra soft moisturizing cloths cleanse and remove makeup while hydrating your skin. This cloth gently removes all traces of dirt oil, makeup as well as water proof makeup. Leaves skin smooth with cucumber and aloe extracts.

 

Review

I don't believe that any eye makeup remover will get off any makeup in one wipe but this did a pretty good job in getting a good amount of my eye shadow off in one wipes. You do have to work a bit more to get off mascara. There was no noticeable smell to the wipes. The package is not great, you can reopen and close this package as much as you want and the wipes will not dry out however I didn't like how the edges of sticker I guess you can call it that, they would curl up over time. The cloths are a good size, sometimes I when cut them in half when I'm not wearing too much makeup because I don't need the whole cloth. There are 25 cloths in a package so this doesn't last a full month.

 

 

L'OREAL Skin Genesis Wet Cleansing Towelettes

About The Product

 Embossed fabric that grips and removes impurities as well as makeup around the eyes, these wipes provide for effective cleansing of your skin. These wipes have BHA which naturally enhances daily cellular renewal to help skin be smoother, brighter and fresher, why'll helping your skin natural moisture balance.

 

Review

 At first when I was reading the package after I had finished it I was thinking to myself is this even a makeup remover and I think the answer to that question is no. It sounds more from the description on the package like a cleanser in a cloth form. Also no were on the package does it say makeup remover it only says that it "removes makeup around the eyes" which I was using this on my eye lid which could be why this irritated my eyes. This wipe has a strong smell, it's also thicker but smaller than the Neutrogena wipes. As well the packaging for this product is better than Neutrogena. The wipes don't remove makeup as well as Neutrogena wipes and also irritate my eyes as I said before when I used them. There are 25 cloths in this package like the Neutrogena wipes. I wouldn't recommend this for heavy makeup users if you want to use this I would recommend this for people that wear little to no makeup.

 

 

Overall I like Neutrogena Makeup Removers Cleaning Cloths better then L'OREAL Skin Genesis Wet Cleansing Towelettes. I wouldn't buy the L'OREAL cloths again even as a cleanser because I really didn't like the smell of this product.
